Signs it’s Time to Replace Your Water Heater

|

A water heater is an important appliance in your Del City home and when it fails to work, it can cause not only discomfort, but time-delays in getting to school, work, etc. Water heaters are manufactured in a variety of types including tank and tankless water heaters. Although most home owners have tank water heaters. It is important to determine whether or not the water heater simply needs a repair or if it needs to be replaced completely.

Over time corrosion and rust occurs in seal parts, water lines, thermostat valves and the anode rod may also be stripped of metal due to the hot water temperature as well as the high water pressure. The first area of inspection should be to observe whether or not leaking is present. If so, a repair may be made if the leak can be patched or resealed. Other signs to observe are noises that a water heater might be making; the home owner may get close to the water heater tank and listen for banging noises within the inside compartment. Leaks and noises are two obvious signs that a water heater may need to be replaced.

If water takes longer than normal to heat or if the hot water doesn’t stay on long, these are also signs that the water heater should be replaced. Not only are older water heaters inefficient at maintaining hot water, they are also costly to operate. Once a home owner has determined that the water heater needs to be replaced, they may do so by purchasing a water heater and contracting a professional to install the unit into the home.

A water heater that is not too old with minor leaks or corroded seals might be able to be salvaged. However, units that have corrosive damage within the main components of the tank and are older than 12 years should be replaced with a new unit. Replacing a water heater may not be the most comfortable financial move at first; although a new water heater will be able to efficiently maintain hot water as well as reduce the utility bills from being energy efficient.
