3 Ways to Prevent a Slab Leak

|

Slab leaks are something that you want to avoid at all costs, and if you are aware of some of the things that may cause this type of problem, you may be able to prevent a slab leak from occurring. This could end up saving you a giant amount of money, because fixing a slab that is leaking can be majorly expensive. Here are some things that you should keep an eye on and some preventative actions that you can take to ensure that you do not end up developing a slap leak.

Keep Water Pressure Under Control

Water pressure that is too high is fairly common in older homes and it can cause a great deal of stress on the pipes in your home. Water pressure can damage and even break pipes when too much water is being forced down a small pipe, although not many people seem to be aware of this.

It is a good idea to find out about how big your pipes are and to not let the water come out at full speed if you do in fact have a home that has a piping system that displays water very rapidly. You can also contact a plumber if you are having this issue and ask them about getting the pressure turned down.

Poor Installations

Although this is not something that you can have any control of if you are moving into a new home, you can still call a plumbing company to come out and check your pipes and plumbing system out. They will be able to check your pipes out and inspect your slab, which will tell them if you have a leak.

Doing this is not only intelligent, it can save you a drastic amount of money and is something you should consider doing every few years just to be safe.

Chemicals Down the Drain

People put all sorts of things down the drain that should not be there and this often times leads them to experience clogs. Unfortunately, a lot of these individuals think that they can simply clean the pipes and empty the clog by going to the store and purchasing a chemical compound that says it will unclog pipes. These products are flat out destructive and should be avoided at all costs, as they will likely cause your pipes damage, which can cause a leak and can be the culprit of your leaking slab.
